Ford vehicles come equipped with an incredibly versatile and user-friendly infotainment system in the form of the SYNC systems. But these aren’t always for everyone, maybe you’re the vehicle’s second owner and the original owner didn’t opt for navigation, or maybe you have a specific music streaming service that you want to use. For these situations, you have the option of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. These can be an incredibly useful tool for those who have a need for it.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are a means of projecting your smartphone’s functions onto the touchscreen in your vehicle. This gives you a bigger screen and alleviates the need for an ugly or awkward phone mount, while still allowing you to use a wide variety of smartphone apps. As the names imply, Android Auto is for use with Android phones, while Apple CarPlay works with Apple phones, but the two otherwise function effectively the same. They work with touchscreen SYNC 3 systems and all SYNC 4/4A systems. You will need a corded connection for SYNC 3, but SYNC 4/4A systems allow for wireless connectivity.
