The large majority of performance vehicles in the world are built for on-road (or on-track) performance, but the F-150 is built to go fast in the dirt. Previously, performance offroad machines were modified mainstream trucks built by enthusiasts or racing teams, but the F-150 Raptor is a trophy truck racer that you can buy pre-built by Ford and drive on the road. The F-150 Raptor comes standard with a twin-turbo V6 that gives you a noticeable power advantage over the rest of the F-150 lineup. For those who want the absolute most power, there is the Raptor R, which comes with a 5.2-liter supercharged V8. This is the main difference between the Raptor and Raptor R, but the R also comes with a modular front bumper, dual-valve shocks, and R badging to let everyone know what you have, just in case they somehow missed the V8 roar.
"The Ford Raptor is an amazing off-roader that's also packed with modern features. It's a trophy truck for the streets." — Edmunds
"The Ford F-150 Raptor pumps out so much fun and such oversize thrills, you'd assume that it had been outlawed years ago. Think of it as a full-size F-150 that's been fed nothing but creatine, dumbbells, and gallons of Bang Energy drink during development." — Car & Driver
There was a mild redesign of the front fascia for 2024. This comes with new headlights, tow hooks, and an available modular bumper where you can mount an available light bar. Fox Dual Live Valve shocks now come with the V8-powered Raptor R, which also gets a bump from 700 horsepower to 720 for 2024. Lastly, there is a new paint color, Shelter Green, available now.
The F-150 Raptor exists to be a no-compromise performance machine, a means of flying over even the most difficult terrain. Under the hood, you’ll find a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost® V6 that makes 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. It also has a cooling system that is upgraded from the standard F-150, so if you’re planning to head straight to the Baja 1000 (a race regularly won by Ford trucks), the cooling system will be able to handle it. If you need more power, there is the Raptor R, which comes with a 5.2-liter supercharged “Predator” V8, which turns out 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. Making sure all of that power reaches the ground is a sophisticated offroad suspension setup made by Fox™. Opting for the Raptor R also upgrades this system to a dual-valve setup. All this means incredible handling, even at speed and in the dirt.
There is a lot to like about the interior of any trim of the F-150, but the Raptor has the added advantage of including a ton of otherwise optional equipment as standard, as well as a fair amount that this specific just to the Raptor. That means the optional 12-inch SYNC® 4 touchscreen is standard on the Raptor, and you can use it to control the seriously impressive 18-speaker B&O® Unleashed Sound System by Bang & Olufsen®. You get dual-zone climate control, and the seats are both heated and ventilated. You also have the option of leather and Alcantara Recaro® racing seats with color contrast stitching. Things like the floor mats, steering wheel, and available carbon fiber accents are all specific to the Raptor. And whether you’re on the road or off, the ride in the Raptor is always superb, a big plus when it comes to comfort.
The kind of performance that the F-150 Raptor delivers is only possible because it’s also a technological wonder. Even the fluid in the shock absorbers was specially engineered for super low friction. Selectable driving modes make sure that you always have optimal stability, traction, quick acceleration off the line, and yes, comfort. The fully digital and customizable gauge cluster combines with a standard head-up display to make it easy to keep an eye on the status of your vehicle, even when pushing the performance of the Raptor hard. And when you’re not, there are creature comforts like ambient lighting, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Raptor is even much better at towing than you would expect from a performance machine, with a capacity of 8,200 pounds and tech features like Trailer Sway Control, Pro Trailer Backup Assist™, and the available Tow Technology Package. There’s plenty of safety tech too, like BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert and AdvanceTrac™ With Roll Stability Control™.
