The Escape has always been a hit, and was a major driving force behind the rise in popularity of the compact SUV segment when it was first introduced. The Escape continued to evolve over the years, and these days there’s a new reason to love it, the available hybrid drivetrain. This drivetrain produces 192 horsepower and is available in most Escape trims. Naturally, it also comes with everything else you already love about the Escape, like the advanced SYNC® 4 infotainment system, and huge amounts of cargo space. This goes along with the supremely comfortable interior, which makes everything from running errands to long road trips a lot easier to enjoy.
A big part of the appeal of the Escape has always been that it’s easy on the wallet at the gas station, but Ford has decided to lean into this particular advantage with the Escape Hybrid. One of the first hybrids in this segment, the hybrid drivetrain option is now available on almost every trim of the Escape. This gives the Escape Hybrid a combined fuel economy rating of 39 mpg, and unlike with conventional gasoline drivetrains, opting for the available all-wheel drive doesn’t impact fuel economy at all. And while there is a plug-in hybrid version of the Escape, it is only available with front-wheel drive. This makes the Escape Hybrid the perfect compromise between fuel economy and the kind of capability that you want from a vehicle when you live somewhere that snows as much as it does in Ohio.
The Escape Hybrid is fun to drive and comfortable, but it has become such a popular model because of how incredibly practical it is. Fuel economy is certainly a part of this, but there’s more. For starters, there is 34.4 cubic feet of cargo space in the back. Folding the back seats down opens it up to 60.8 cubic feet, and the available power liftgate makes it easy to access. For more day-to-day storage needs, the passenger compartment has all kinds of cubbies and compartments. There are 8 cupholders and a dedicated compartment for your sunglasses, as well as charging ports front and back and a wireless charging pad. The available 360-degree camera with Split View makes it easy to negotiate tight spaces, and if you hate parallel parking, there is Active Park Assist 2.0 to handle that especially unpopular part of driving.
No matter how much fun it is to drive, or how great the fuel economy is, a vehicle has to be a comfortable place to sit during your morning commute in order for you to want to live with it. Fortunately, this is another of the Escape Hybrid’s strengths. The seats and ride are comfortable, and dual-zone automatic climate control is standard. If you need a bit more to protect you against the cold, heated seats and a heated steering wheel are available. The infotainment system is running Ford’s latest SYNC® 4 operating system, and there is an available 13.2-inch touchscreen to make it easier to see and operate. The standard stereo that goes with this has six speakers and sounds excellent. But if you’re looking for a real audiophile experience, there is an available 10-speaker B&O® Sound System by Bang & Olufsen®. The Escape Hybrid is also packed with technology to cut down on driver fatigue, like Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering and Speed Sign Recognition.
